MONKEY MAJIK

I still remember the first time I heard fly song playing on the radio. Listen to the voice, I thought "its heard something like he's not Japanese." And I was right!

They're MONKEY MAJIK, two of the members are Canadian brothers, Maynard and Blaise Plant. They both perform vocalist and guitar. And two others are pure Japanese. Tax on drumm, and DICK on bass. Due the combination of this two nation, and also the lyrics are sung in both English and Japanese, the band is sometimes reffered to as a "hybrid band". MONKEY MAJIK has been choosen as "Goodwill Ambassadors" for the 80th anniversary of Japanese-Canadian relation. Cool, eh? :D

MONKEY MAJIK formed in 2000. The name is a tribute to the song Monkey Magic (performed by Godiego), which was the theme song to Saiyuuki. Maynard has high respects for Godiego, then inspiring them to use the name. They are signed to Binyl Records, an Avex subsidiary. Their live recordings are handled by Under Horse Records (a subsidiary of Edward Entertainment Group). They still based in Sendai, even after mainstream success.

The band started off as a hobby but quickly turned serious when in 2001 they released their first album TIRED, release limited to 1,000 copies available at Tower Records in Sendai. Successful of the album's sale brought them to Under Horse Records. In 2003 the band released the first full-length album SPADE, once again only available at Tower Records in Sendai, then nation-wide released in 2004. The band's second full-length album, eastview, was released in 2005. In the fall of the same year the band signed on to major label avex. Their first major release single through avex was fly in 2006. It was quickly followed by the release of their second single, Around the World, which was used as the drama Seiyuuki's theme song. In 2007 MONKEY MAJIK released their fourth full-length album Sora wa maru de, where the titled song Sora wa maru de became the first song in Japanese History to reach #1 on USEN Request Chart before being released. Since TIRED the band has sold out every venue across Japan, and is often seen signing autographs after the shows.

Ten2Five, the Best from Indonesia

Ten2Five is Indonesian band who started their professional career in 2004, with their first album I Will Fly. The band name taken from their fixed schedule 10 AM to 5 PM for practice every Saturday. At first they consist of Imel (vocal), Didit (guitar), Robin (guitar), Arief (bass) dan Poltak (drums). But in about 2006, Didit out from the band because of incompatibility music reference.

Ten2five joined with Explosive Record label since debut. After released their first album on April 16th 2004, they got Golden Award for selling 75000 pieces of tape and 17000 CD. In 2005, You song has became the original soundtrack of Me vs High Heels movie and Ten2Five appeared as cameo on it.

Ten2Five actually could to go international with English lyric of their songs in the next album A Brand New Day (2006). They also have a Japanese-lyric song tittled Eien no Ai which release in third album 3 (read: tiga) in September 2007. This song had brought them to NHK TV station (Japan) to be interviewed about their album. In the middle of 2008 their additional players, Teguh (keyboard) and Udin (guitar), has officially become a member of the band. But when Ten2Five's contract with the label ended, Poltak (drums) and Robin (guitar) who joined them from the beginning decided to out from the band.

About the foreign-language-lyric from most of their songs, Ten2Five said that they have a distinctive feel when creating songs with foreign language. But it doesn't mean they don't love bahasa Indonesia, their own language. They confirmed it in some local TV show. It was evident when Ten2Five rearranged traditional Indonesian songs and packaged it in a full album tittled I Love Indonesia. The album is their idealistic project and funded by their own because there was no label would to. So this fourth album distributed free with Circle K and via web.

Ten2Five after left by Udin still survive with 3 personnel, Imel, Arief, and Teguh. They choose the path of indie music, because of their freedom in music no longer constrained by labels. So they enjoyed it till now. They are still busy with the shows. Ten2Five also often greet the fans on social media, especially twitter. No wonder if some people called them as the most friendly band.

Ten2Five is my favorite Indonesian band since I addicted with music. I remember I will Fly song was hits during my first year in high school. My friend played it with his guitar on the school trip and we sang together. How an unforgettable moment! I like their music overall, meaningfull, inspiring, cheer me up, and pretty easy listening. In my country, not many bands like them. Ten2Five is the best. And I proud they're from Indonesia!

Welcome, Hilcrhyme!!

HILCRHYME

Hilcrhyme (ヒルクライム Hirukuraimu) is a Japanese hip-hop band formed in 2004. Consisting of two members, DJ Katsu and TOC, come from Niigata Prefecture. The band name actually comes from the word "hillclimb" which pun with the word "rhyme" behind it (both have the same sounds when spoken by Japanese people,"hirukuraimu").

The duo hip-hop started their first official project with a demo album titled Nettaiya in march 2007. Their debut single Mou Bye Bye (もうバイバイ; Bye Bye Again) was released independently through Nao Plan management. Then they signed with Universal Music Japan in 2009, and release their first major label Jun'ya to Manami.

Hilcrhyme was raised up by their second major label single Shunkashuutou (春夏秋冬; The Four Seasons). which became the ending theme CDTV in September 2009. That was a great success by staying several weeks in the Oriconweekly top ten. The song also certified for 1,000,000 cellphone digital downloads and 1,000,000 ringtone downloads separately. In early 2010, Hilcrhyme won the domestic New Artist of the Year award at the 24th Japan Gold Disc Awards.

As I said before, the song that made me fallin’ love with the duo was Loose Leaf song. This their 5th single becoming their first drama theme song. Hilcrhyme's latest single tittled Okubyou na Ookami (臆病な狼), has just been released at the end of last month. You gotta check it out!

Dragon Ash, The Pioneers of Japanese Hip-Hop

Dragon Ash has been one of the most influential bands to build Japanese hip-hop and "mixture-kei" music (as punk combined with hip-hop is commonly referred to in Japan). The color of their music thick with western flavor. They turn on the hip-hop music with a unique mix of reggae, rap, rap-rock, punk, Spanish, and R & B influences.

This band from Tokyo was formed by Furuya Kenji and Sakurai Makoto in 1996 when they were in junior high school. By audition, they recruit Ikuzo Baba for the bassist who was 30 years old and had some experience in music industry, while Furuya and Sakurai were still only teenagers at the time. So Ikuzo selected as a mentor of the group.

Dragon Ash debuted in 1997 with joined to Victor Entertainment, and launched a mini singles The Day Dragged On. Their first album Mustang! launched in the same year. Their high school friends, Bots, joined on turntables. This was makes their music move away from punk into more "mixture-kei". Their singles success on Oricon Chart. Such as their 4th single Let yourself go, let myself go which hit on #7, and eventually climbed to #4, selling a total of 640,000 copies. Their 5th and 6th singles Grateful Days and I Love Hip Hop which debuted at #3 and #4. Grateful Days would eventually go on to #1, becoming both the first hip-hop work and the first mixture band single to reach the #1 spot on Oricon Chart.

Dragon Ash reached the peak of success after releasing third album Viva la Revolution in July 1999. The album is directly hit #1 on Oricon Chart in its debut week. The next album Lily of Da Valley did nearly as well. In 2003, Dragon Ash made a surprise with the new line-up, by adding 3 new members, Hiroki on guitar and two dancers, Dri-V and Atsushi. Some fans and critics didn’t like this change. They assumed that Dragon Ash does not need back dancers.

The best side of Dragon Ash is they are admirable. Lyrics of their songs are full of positive meaning like following one's dreams and being true to your friends and family. Unlike much American hip-hop that include threats of violence. For Japanese young people, rap is about such things sounds pretentious.

Ryo Debut as Stage Actor!

Check this out!

Jabrik Style
Yoh dengan model rambut jabrik kayak gini pernah muncul di slide show PV Rakuyou. Kayaknya sih ini waktu OR masih indie. Mukanya lucu, mirip sama fotonya waktu masih kecil x)

Kepang Pilin
Waktu jamannya Michishirube

Shaggy Orange
Kalo ini udah jelas waktu jamannya Shanghai Honey, hair style yang seragam sama semua member OR (kecuali Ryo). Mentang-mentang orange, semua serba orange sampe ke rambut LOL

Afro Gunsho
Gaya kribo yang sempet bikin gue pangling sendiri. Dulu waktu masih baru-baru suka OR, gue nggak tau lho kalo yang rambut brokoli di PV Viva Rock itu ternyata Yoh!! xP

Kepang Pilin [part 2]
Gue bilang part 2 karna ini kedua kalinya Yoh ngepang-pilin rambutnya LOL. Tapi kali ini kepangannya lebih kecil lagi. Ouh so cute~

Plontos a.k.a Botak
Mungkin ribet sama rambut kepangnya, Yoh gundulin kepala. Aah~ beneran deh Yoh nggak banget kalo botak (>.<)
Tapi selama kepalanya masih licin, Yoh nutupinnya pake topi sport atau kupluk. Jadi keren xD

Rambut Pendek
Gaya rambut pendek di gambar pertama salah satu favorit gue. Simple but enchant (>_<)
Udah gitu, bagian atasnya di-highlight. Makin keren aja...

Nggak tau ini namanya model rambut apa xD
tapi yang jelas Yoh tetep nggak kehilangan pesonanya *melting*
Gaya rambut ini dipertahankan selama tahun 2005

Long hair a.k.a Gondrong
Nah, tahun 2006 ke sini, Yoh membiarkan rambutnya panjang.
Biar gitu, Yoh nggak serta-merta kehilangan sense-of-hairstyle-nya nih. Simak hasil kreasi doi dengan rambut gondrongnya ini:

Punk! Cool~ (>_<)

Diikat saja. Biar nggak ribet nih kalo lagi konser xD

Kuncir a la samurai. Ou.. keren~

Atau warnain sedikit ujung rambutnya. Unik juga

Rambut gondrongnya akhirnya dipotong juga waktu tour Panic Fancy, meski cuma dikit. hihi..
But little more curly. Cute~

Pendek lagi!! Dan gaya ini emang yang paling gue suka ♥
dan masih bertahan sampe sekarang. Kyaaa~ Yoh wa kakkoii (>0<)
